ChatGPT

Connect FeedNest to ChatGPT via Web UI (OAuth) or Responses API (Bearer token).

Prerequisites

  • A FeedNest account

    Apps that connect with OAuth, like ChatGPT and Claude, work on every plan: read-only on Free, full access on Plus and Pro. API keys need Pro. View pricing

  • API key, for apps set up with a key

    Create one in Settings → Developer API or follow the API keys guide

Option A: Connect via ChatGPT Web UI

The recommended way to connect FeedNest. ChatGPT handles the OAuth flow automatically — no API key needed.

  1. 1

    Enable Developer Mode

    ChatGPT Developer Mode is available for Pro, Plus, Business, Enterprise, and Education plans. Go to Settings → Apps & Connectors → Advanced and enable Developer Mode.

  2. 2

    Create a connector

    Go to Settings → Apps → Create. Name it FeedNest and set the URL to https://mcp.feednest.com.

  3. 3

    Log in and authorize

    ChatGPT will redirect you to FeedNest. Log in with your account and allow access on the consent screen.

  4. 4

    Start chatting

    Ask ChatGPT something like "Show me my unread articles from today".

Plans

Every FeedNest plan can connect. On Free, the app can read your feeds and articles, up to 20 requests an hour. Plus and Pro also let it save, tag, highlight and mark articles as read. You can manage connected apps in Settings → Connected Apps.

Option B: Via Responses API

For programmatic access using the OpenAI Responses API. Uses a Bearer token (API key) instead of OAuth.

  1. 1

    Generate an API key

    Go to Settings → API Keys and create a new key.

  2. 2

    Use the MCP tool configuration

    Include the FeedNest server in your Responses API tool list. Replace fn_live_... with your API key.

Responses API tool configuration

Include in the tools array of your Responses API request

{
  "type": "mcp",
  "server_url": "https://mcp.feednest.com",
  "server_label": "feednest",
  "authorization": "fn_live_..."
}

Verify your connection

After setup, try one of these prompts to confirm everything is working:

  • →“What are my unread articles?”
  • →“Summarize my latest saved articles”
  • →“How many feeds am I subscribed to?”

Troubleshooting

OAuth redirect error

Make sure you’re logged in to FeedNest. If the authorization expired, go back to ChatGPT and try connecting again.

Responses API returns 401

Ensure your API key is passed in the 'authorization' field (not 'headers'). The format is a bare key value, not 'Bearer fn_live_...'.

A tool says a feature is included in FeedNest Plus or Pro

On the Free plan, apps can read but not change anything; notes, the lists of highlighted and noted articles, and reading statistics are Plus features; and filtering by date is a Pro feature. After a plan change, reconnect FeedNest so ChatGPT gets access for your new plan.

A tool says the Free plan's requests are used up

The Free plan includes 20 requests an hour from AI assistants. Try again after the wait the message gives.

'Insufficient scope' error

Your API key doesn’t have the scope the tool needs. Create a key with the write scope in Settings → Developer API.
